in the near time it is unlikely that i write any new tut, so i post here a link which can help you on (it's about flash, but documented well and goes much in detail):

i think it's about time to write the next part, but before i'll do this, i like to write a tutorial about a worm-game engine .
here is a quick screen, shows how far it is :

possible news will be mentioned (shortly) ;)

You should keep in touch with Mike Halliday (our Voice of the PPL newsletter author). He is looking for tutorials to include in the newsletter.

you don't need to ask me, i've already offered the tutorial to you :P
here a quote from my editing sprites surface thread:
btw i think it will be useful for a tut, so mike, would you like it as a part of a newsletter? it's about creating a worms-games like engine with destructible terrain.

Lmao - must have mis-read your posting - sorry! :S

Yes I would love an example of your worms game like engine for the newsletter.

I must read the posts properly - hee hee

Destructible terrain rocks!

Nicknack, you ought to check out this thread: PPL Developers? (http://www.arianesoft.ca/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?9068). I think your name belongs there.

Looks like NickNak uses a clever 'filled circle' to destroy the terrain which looks like it is on its own surface!

Am I right NickNak?

sorry for the bad spelling, I seem to have missed the second C out of NickNack's name!

ho hum! :(

@PointOfLight: i'm not quite sure about that, i'm still dependent much on tutorials, this one (destructible terrain) is also developed from a tut. but thx for your encouragement

@mike: yes you're absolutely right ;)
i use filled circles, in fact ellipses, to "bomb" the surface of the terrain.
you may have a look at this thread: Click me

@mike2: maybe you have mis-readed my post, because of my english...how bad is it? I fear worst...

@mike3: if you hadn't mentioned your mistake, i surely would have not recognised it :D

FInding the most simple way of doing something is what increases your knowledge. - Others would have used multiple sprites and filled up the memory. NickNack has used an old school method to destroy the terrain. Much like the original 'Missile Command', filled circles or ellipses present the easiest and cleanest way of making holes in any surface.

I can't wait to include this in a tutorial some time soon!

another screen, showing the engine in the nearly most advanced status for now...
hence it's time for writing some tut-text :)

Did you ever get your tutorial written NickNack?

Nicknack
04-22-2008, 06:01 PM
a BIG sorry guys you all achieve so much for ppl and i don't even find time for such a ludicrous, small tut :(
sadly i have lost PPL out of my sight in the last weeks, after two weeks without internet connection (changed the provider) and problems with my pocket pc.
i hope i can get some things going in the next time (a faster falling sand game is at work, thx zehlein for his game of life tut) and i promise you, i will never offer you a tutorial again if is not already finished.

Glad to see you back. - You dont have to worry about tutorials yet if you have not done any. I have one already for this months newsletter and a follow up tutorial for next month too. You are safe for about a month! hee hee

Your offer of another tile tutorial would be too good to miss though! :)

Nicknack

nice to hear mike, but i have already send the tut too you, so maybe you'll take a look at it and decide if i should upgrade the tut in next month or if it as is worth being publicated.

NickNack, don't ever feel obligated to provide us with something, even if you say you're going to.* We know that things come up, and it's nice to even see people considering to write tutorials or demos or whatever.* It's good to seek you back.* Hopefully your electronics woes are all sorted out now.

Mike Halliday
04-22-2008, 08:17 PM
erm. when did you send the tut to me? - I dont recall seeing it!

When was it sent?

Mike Halliday

Apologies NickNack - I have just seen my PM from you.

Thanks. I will have a good look at it and fit it into the newsletter in June i think! :P

I've been that busy working on the second part of this months tutorial that I missed the PM messages! ha ha
