Hi Guys,

Its great to see more users posting stuff made with PPL :) keep it up, this is what we want.

To go with the new retro demo section of the diskmag, I have been creating components to include.

Here is a taster of things to come ... An Amiga style retro 90s scroller - complete with Amiga font! :p

Arrow keys control speed, space exits.

2 batch files included that run the demo in Windowed and Fullscreen modes;

Let me know if you like it? :eek:

Yep! Brings back memories Mike!!

Very nice, pretty smooth in Windowed mode, blisteringly fast in full screen!!!

Nice one mike. I like this.

I am currently working on a retro ppc demo as we speak. Quite challenging to keep the frame rate up. started at 31 fps, then 106fps currently at 82 so got plenty more scope to add stuff in yet :)

Nice to see the PPL demo community starting. Could be fun times. Last time I coded a demo was in c64 assembler and many many years ago so this is really igniting some old feelings.

Here's another one to fuel you all on;

My take on the X-Large background scroller by Spreadpoint from about 1994 on the Amiga!

Runs on both PC and PPC (PC in windowed and full screen mode)

PPC runs at 78fps on my Prophet (195mhz)
PC version runs at 1778 fps on my 3Ghz HP desktop and 400fps on my Acer Netbook! :)

Hopefully the 13 independent scroll lines won't make you all sick! lmao

Hi Mike.
Nice work again!!

Runs fine on the pc, although on the pocketpc I have a couple of points (in a nice way)

1. I get 76fps, but the scrolls are very slow as in you can see them ticking. Is this the same on yours? Can you speed them up with a slight larger increment.

2. On the precalcs at the begning in might be a nice idea just to put up some text to says so as it takes quite a while on my ppc. Its only cos I have had the same myself that I didn't worry myself about it :)

Here is a new version of the scroller;

Now has a 'decrunch - please wait' screen that takes away the black screen while generating the font files;

I have also changed it to hopefully make it faster on PPC devices, and 'package-ised' it so the graphics are non rip-able! :) - just like the old demos.

Cheers
Mike.

Now that is a lovely demo............so now it's on, may the intro wars begin :)

Nice performance on the ppc now Mike which is where it counts. It's much more of a challenge to get a good performance from a mobile device and you've nailed it.

If this doesn't wet the appetite of some demo coders here then nothing will.
