What determines whether syntax highlighting is activated or not respectively how can I activate it? I probably have pressed a wrong hot key and now the syntax highlighting for new programs is deactivated (when I load old ones, the highlighting works properly).

Are you creating a new PPL file by any chance?
If so, you have to save it before it will highlight anything.

Yes, syntax highlighing only works on .ppl files.

The problem is, that when I create a new ppl file, then copy for example the winAPI skeleton into it, save and run it the highlighting doesn't work (also if I close everything and start PPL again and load the file again, the highlighting doesn't work). However with old files the highlighting works fine.
There is also another difference: in the directory where the files are which have no syntax highlighting, the system creates a file function.dat with the names of all PPL functions in it (which could be used for syntax highlighting). So this seems somehow related.

function.dat should be located where the PIDE is located nowhere else.
Do you save your file with a .ppl extension?

Yes, the files are properly saved as ppl. The origin of the problem was, that I pressed a wrong hot key (in the Borland environments most of the hotkeys are different and sometimes I simply get the wrong hotkeys). Unfortunately I don't remember which key combination caused the problem.
It doesn't matter much. Probably when I reinstall PPL, it will also be solved :)
